SURRY - A play, "Deadly Earnest," will be presented Friday
and Saturday nights at the Surry Town Hall, with proceeds
going toward the "Reading Is Fundamental" program at the
Surry Elementary School. The play will be presented by the
Surry Old Home Players; curtain will be at 8 p.m. nightly,
and tickets will be $1.25 for adults and 50 cents for
children under age 12. Tom Dutton will play the bumbling
hero, and other cast members are Sheila Breton, Maureen
Bigelow, Linda Denis, Hazel Hammond, Joni Abrams, Sheila
Phillips, John Gilliland, Marilyn Jarvis, Dorothy Wilbur,
John Denis, Frank Haley, Russ Fiorey, and Dean Tasker. The
play is directed by Marilyn Jarvis; Bill Bigelow is handling
staging work, Mary Aldrich prompting and special effects, and
Robert Hammond printing. The Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)
program is designed to get children interested in reading by
providing them with their own books, free. Local funds must
be raised to match a federal grant.
